I had a blast doing the R+D on this one.

This was an interesting challenge from my friends at Suspect... using Element 3D in After Effects to create laptops that match what the CG team was doing in Maya. I also designed and animated the type treatment.
Lead Flame Artist, CHARLEX
One of the highlights of my professional career. It’s rare for a visual effects company to have an in-house project of this magnitude, but from my previous experience working with Alex Weil on One Rat Short, I knew that the commitment Charlex would make to Shapeshifter would be extraordinary. I was stunned the first time I saw Diana Park's boards. Working with the team at Charlex to bring this project to life in such a free-flowing, collaborative process was an incredibly rewarding challenge that gave me lots of freedom to explore.

"Regza" The directive was to communicate rich colors and intricate details through a kaleidoscopic world motivated by music. The bulk of the spot is a combination of two main kaleidoscopes -- one generated from a large diamond-shaped glass I shot on a turntable; the other based on a bunch of my vacation photos. I worked closely with animator Adam Burke in choreographing the transition to a final scene where the talent is watching the TV.

"Journey" With less than 10 days to create this spot (including modeling the characters, creating the artwork, etc), it felt like I was in college again, pulling all-nighters with friends on a project we were all fired up about. In addition to doing the entirety of the Flame work on this spot, I imported Maya camera and tracking data for several of the shots to add particle effects as well as light some imported and Flame-generated models. For example, the six pack of cans was made by extruding a zapf dingbats character and projecting images of condensation on the models.

Given only a handful of stills, I created this spot for Jamaica's Tourism Board to celebrate the country's 50 years of independence.

Verizon's "It's The Network" campaign. Integrating countless plates of CG trucks and helicopters with green screen elements of just 200 extras, I helped create the massive crowds following Verizon's "Test Man." I also created the FIOS and Verizon "check mark" logo animations.

"Black Star" Using Trapcode's Form in After Effects, I created an environment of nebulae which was then brought into Flame for the final composites.

I've been fortunate to have had lots of diverse creative challenges over the years, including broadcast design.
A collection of my motion design and logo animation work. The irony is not lost on me that these "motion" design samples aren't moving -- I hope to upload the moving pieces soon... :)
A few long-form projects...
The degree to which I can create compelling visuals is largely contingent upon the geniuses who write the programs and plug-ins I use. This selection of tutorials and time-lapse videos aims to demystify some of the plugins as well as highlight my creative process.
